A BTS Moment! The third picture is the garage I transformed and has been one of my favorite scenes I've designed. The goal was to create a space that seemed ignored and forgotten, but I wanted the re-sets to be as seamless as possible for continuity sake. One of the solutions for this- pool floaties! They're light enough for the actor to throw and a big enough obstacle that takes up plenty of white space.

BTS Moments!

The picture on the left shows the original living room, where the owners attempted to hide the door behind the couch. In contrast, the still above shows how I transformed that corner into a functional entryway, complete with a door leading to the fictional garage or an outdoor space. The simplest addition that made this transformation feel authentic? A wall-mounted coat rack!

In the images below, you can see the transformation of this room into the son's childhood bedroom. Given that this was a low-budget film, repurposing everyday items from around the house proved to be incredibly useful. For instance, the fabric on the wall to the left of the bed is actually a shower curtain, but it adds a much-needed texture to the scene.

This was a low budget show that took place in JMU's Black Box theater. During a design class that semester, I knew I wanted to play with floating windows and this was the perfect place. I designed this skeletal set to designate a box for the characters who are emotionally boxed in, and the windows created that exact effect.

The above daily shows the garage I transformed, which has become one of my favorite scenes to design. The goal was to create a space that felt neglected and forgotten, while ensuring the resets were seamless for continuity. One solution I came up with? Pool floaties! They're light enough for the actor to toss around, yet large enough to fill the white space and serve as a noticeable obstacle.

This was a step up from a workshopped show that took place in JMU's black box theater. During a design class that semester, I knew I wanted to play with floating windows, and this was the perfect place. With a smaller budget, I still wanted to create some sort of perimeter for the characters who are also emotionally boxed in, and the windows created that exact effect.

The goal was to create a space that felt neglected and forgotten, while ensuring the resets were seamless for continuity. One solution I came up with? Pool floaties! BTS Moments
The picture above
shows the original living room where the owners tried to hide the door behind the couch. Instead, I transformed that corner to appear as a functional entryway with a door leading from the garage or outside space. The simplest addition to make this appearance truthful- coat hanger! See the final product in the second picture from the bottom.

In the images above, you can see the transformation I made from this room into the son's childhood bedroom. This was a very low budget film so using other objects from around the house came in handy. For example, the fabric on the wall to the left of the bed is actually a shower curtain but it adds texture to the scene that I felt was needed.
